T-shirt research

I have decided to look at what is out there already before I start to design my own t-shirt. I started by looking at Topshop's designs. This was for the look and shape of the t-shirt, more then for the design on the front. http://www.topshop.com

All of these are different shapes and styles, some have patterns, some are wraps, some have sleeves and some don't.
This is a vest style top, very popular this season. I like how the straps are joined at the back as one, instead as two.

Long sleeved t-shirts are a nice alternative to short sleeves.

This is a nice style top, with no straps. They are very popular at the moment, as a sexy alternative to a normal t-shirt.

This a a wrap style top. I like the flowy shape of it.

This has a print on it. Kind of what I am looking for, because we are designing t-shirts like this and I could probably make this kind of pattern on Photoshop.

These have embellishment on, and I like the idea of having kind of a 3D feeling
the clothing.

Then I looked at actual t-shirt designs on Snorg Tees, http://www.snorgtees.com.

These are all comical tees/t-shirts, they are very popular and I would like to make a witty/funny t-shirt like one of these.

Banksy

Graphic designer research

Banksy

‘Banksy is a England-based graffiti artist, political activist, film director and painter.’

‘He began as a freehand graffiti artist in 1992-1994. He was inspired by local artists and his work was part of the larger Bristol underground scenewith Nick Walker, Inkie and 3D.
is stencils feature striking and humorous images, occasionally combined with slogans. The message is usually anti-war, anti-capitalist or anti-establishment. Subjects often include rats, apes, policemen, soldiers, children and the elderly.’

T-shirt designs

These are my three final t-shirt designs for the TeeTonic.com competition. I made them on Adobe Photoshop CS4. Taking into account the latest trends of this year and the last, I have chosen to do one zombie tee because zombies have been very popular over the pass few months. There have been so many films made about zombies taking over and zombie apocalypses, and then t-shirts and accessories were made and snatched up. It has become 'cool' to have zombie themed items on your person. I also chose to design a puzzle tee, because after looking at t-shirts on different websites it is clear that puzzles and smart comments are what attract peoples attention. For the final design I have chosen to do a fridge type tee. The main idea is that it is meant to be a fridge that has a post-it-note shopping list on it. I chose to put the note in the corner of the design so it looks like someone has just stuck it there really quickly not thinking. I think the main design I will post is the puzzle tee. It is my favourite of all the designs because it is very simple, true for most people and makes me giggle. I did a survey in class and most people voted for the puzzle tee. I chose Banksy as a artist to research because I respect the courage and skill that he portrays in his work. I think street art is popular because of him.

I really enjoyed this brief, mainly because the plan/designing part of it was very interesting. I love drawing and designing clothing.
